Description

Adhesives and sealants play an important role in meeting the growing need in the automotive industry for improvements in driving comfort, performance, safety and reliability of vehicles. A top level analysis of the critical needs and possible solutions show that high performance adhesives and sealants can help prevent component failures and hence reduce warranty related costs. With an ultimate aim to enhance customer satisfaction, automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are looking for innovative adhesive/ sealant products that offer ease of application and processing for use in complex parts and engine components. Frost & Sullivan tracks developments in this space for new products with modified variants of epoxy, polyurethane, acrylic, polyvinyl chloride, and rubber-based adhesive. In this issue, we have identified recent developments that have achieved improvements in bonding strength and performance in harsh environments while reducing curing times and the need for surface preparation on various material substrates.

The High-Tech Materials TechVision Opportunity Engine (TOE) provides intelligence on technologies, products, processes, applications, and strategic insights on various materials across industries. Some material technologies include lightweight materials, bio–based materials, ceramics, smart materials, fibers, nanomaterials, responsive materials, polymers, woven and non woven materials, polymers and plastics and packaging materials.

The Materials and Coatings cluster tracks research and innovation trends and developments across specialty chemicals, plastics, polymers, chemicals, bio-chemicals, metals, coatings, thinfilms, surface treatments, composites, alloys, oil and gas, fuel additives, fibers, and several other related technologies and its impact and application across industries.

Keywords: Automotive, adhesive, sealants, engines, flexible flanges, repair and maintenance, interior modules
