Description

ASEAN was the third-largest revenue contributor to the AMD market in Asia-Pacific. Despite a strong growth rate of 30.6% in 2017, the market recorded a slower YoY growth of 15.4% in 2018. As one of the fastest-growing digital economies in Asia-Pacific, ASEAN is now a hot spot for targeted cyber espionage, state-sponsored cyberattacks, ransomware or even as a launchpad for malware attacks. As a result, advanced malware threats will remain a key challenge to both public and private enterprises, especially large organizations with a regional footprint or highly regulated sectors, such as BFSI, service providers or government entities.

The key verticals to adopt on-premise AMD solutions were the highly regulated industries: BFSI, government, service providers, and other critical infrastructure sectors. These large businesses or organizations preferred on-premise deployment, as most of them have an in-house security team to manage security operations. As such, on-premises AMD solutions were chosen for deployment in their own security operation center (SOC) and to meet local regulations.

As the trend in the overall security market has shifted from dedicated physical security appliance to cloud-based services because of the latter’s ease of deployment, the cloud-based AMD segment in the ASEAN region saw robust growth in 2018. As the cloud-based services are able to provide a high level of scalability and flexibility, in terms of deployment, pricing, and investment, this segment gained significant market share. However, the stronger uptake of cloud-based AMD services is still mainly among less-regulated enterprises or small-scale businesses.

In addition to market growth analysis, the study highlights the key driving forces of the advanced malware detection market in ASEAN. Key drivers include the increasing sophistication of advanced malware attacks, which drives the need to identify unknown threats without relying on traditional malware detection tools alone; the increasing need to manage business risks proactively, which drives investment in advanced malware detection technology to prevent large and costly data breaches; the integration of advanced malware detection solutions to a broader security portfolio or to common security control points, which prompts investment in such solutions due to ease of deployment.

Market trends are analyzed for the study period 2017 to 2023, with 2018 as the base year. The vertical segmentation in this study includes sectors, such as the government, banking, financial services and Insurance (BFSI), service providers, manufacturing, education, and other sectors, such as pharmaceuticals, retail, logistics, oil and gas, energy, mining, agriculture, IT/ITES, eGaming, eCommerce, and BPOs.

The competitive analysis covers FireEye, Cisco, and TrendMicro. The regional scope of this study includes ASEAN countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, The Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
