The Brazilian Chemicals, Materials and Foods (CMF) industry is one of the largest in Latin America. Though privitization and liberalization has helped contributed to growth of the industry, shortage of raw materials, higher taxes and logistics costs have an adverse impact on the competitiveness of the Chemical industry. Strong agricultural sector had contributed to the development of food and beverages industry. Lack of market orientation, overvalued currency, inadequate investments in infrastructure and research and development are some of the challenges facing the food and beverages industry. This research service looks at the impact of the political and policy developments on the chemicals, materials and foods industry.
