A record-high attendance of 1,000 radiology directors and managers convened to the 2015 Annual Meeting of the Association for Medical Imaging Management (AHRA 2015) held this year in Las Vegas. Radiology is going through interesting times indeed. Under the coordinated care paradigm that is gradually emerging in the U.S., and with all the changes this is forcing on volume-based economic models, medical imaging enterprises are under increasing pressure to redefine their goals and reassess their value. The one main connecting thread that transpired from the AHRA 2015 sessions and showfloor was Patient-Centric Radiology. Under this overarching theme, two main axes stood out: 1) care quality and patient safety, and 2) population health. In this context, this market insight takes a closer look at the emerging safety issues related to Gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCA) used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
